Brick and stone repairs
Repairs and repointing
Loose stone steps, cracked mortar joints and damaged brick can often be repaired without a full rebuild. We look at what's causing the damage, such as water, settling or freeze–thaw, and tell you whether a repair or a rebuild makes sense.
Freeze–thaw and masonry in Connecticut
Water is the main enemy of brick and stone here. It soaks into mortar joints and porous stone, freezes, expands, and slowly pushes things apart. That's why steps loosen, mortar crumbles and walls bulge after a few winters. Good drainage, solid bases under patios and walkways, and repointing failing joints early all slow that down.
Planning a patio, walkway or wall
Most projects start with a site visit. We look at the slope, drainage, access and what's underneath, talk through materials, and send a written quote. Natural stone and pavers vary from batch to batch, so we confirm product and color with you before anything is ordered. If an existing wall or step can be repaired instead of rebuilt, we'll tell you. Concrete steps, curbs or walkways? See our concrete repair services.
Pavers and stone
Natural stone and pavers vary in color, size and texture, and manufacturers change their lines from year to year. We confirm the current product, color and supplier stock before anything is ordered for your project.
What does a masonry contractor do?
A masonry contractor builds and repairs structures made of brick, stone, block and mortar: patios, walkways, steps, stone walls, retaining walls, block walls, pool decks and outdoor kitchens. Masonry work also covers repointing mortar joints and repairing brick and stone masonry damaged by water, settling or freeze–thaw. Request a free quote for your project.
Is sealing pavers a good idea?
Sometimes. Sealing paver patios, walkways and driveways can deepen the color, make stains easier to clean, and help hold polymeric sand in the joints. The downsides: a sealer has to be reapplied, the wrong product can look glossy or slippery, and sealing over dirt or efflorescence locks it in. Concrete pavers, brick pavers and natural stone all take sealers differently, so we recommend sealing case by case. Request a free quote for your patio, walkway or driveway.
Masonry FAQs
Do you repair existing steps and walls, or only build new ones?
Both. Many jobs are repairs.
Do you fix sunken pavers properly?
Yes. We dig out the sunken area, rebuild and compact the base, then reset the pavers. Just adding sand under them doesn’t fix why they sank.
Can you match my existing stone or brick?
We'll get as close as we can, but natural materials and older brick vary, so an exact match isn't always possible.
