Why crack filling matters

Cracks are where water gets in. Once water reaches the base under the asphalt, freeze–thaw cycles widen the crack, the base weakens, and small cracks turn into potholes and alligator cracking. Filling cracks blocks that moisture before the damage spreads.

What we use

For driveways, we use a hot-pour rubberized crack filler. On parking lots, we use Crafco crack filler.

Crack filling with sealcoating

Most of the time we fill cracks right before driveway sealing or parking lot sealcoating, so the sealer goes down over a closed surface. If your driveway or lot doesn't need sealing yet, we can fill cracks on their own.

When crack filling isn't enough

Crack filling is maintenance. It protects sound pavement but won't fix sunken areas, potholes, base failure or badly broken asphalt. Those need patching or repaving, and we'll tell you honestly which one your pavement needs.

Can every crack be filled? Most cracks, yes. Wide cracks and areas with many connected cracks (alligator cracking) usually mean the base has failed and the section needs patching.

How long before I can drive on it? We'll tell you on the day of the job. If we're sealcoating too, keep vehicles off for at least 72 hours.

How often should cracks be filled? On most driveways and lots, crack filling goes with resealing every 2–3 years. Our maintenance tips cover what to watch for in between.
